Here’s a photo of Kiama headland.

Here’s where the blowhole is located by the yellow triangle. Most suicides occurred along the cliffs near the blowhole.

The yellow line shows the location of 7 family members that drowned in 1992. I was there fishing on that horrific day clueless to what was happening until helicopters and boats swarmed the area.

Here’s where I was fishing.

Here’s the location of the Little Blowhole.

Here’s the Little Blowhole and where Albert Edwin Williams, aged 10 accidentally had his head blown off by a Nordenfelt gun.

If Kiama Blowhole is on your bucket list, don’t forget to check out Minnamurra only 10 minutes up the road.

Here’s the location of the deaths, check previous posts for the whole story.

The yellow line in the photo shows where the toll bar once stood and used from 1844-1849. If you zoom in, you’ll notice a square concrete slab at the end of the yellow line.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/7056/3j8UTs.png

In 1931, a memorial was erected to mark the place where the toll bar was, a white concrete stand and a marble plaque of a 11 year old boy who suspiciously drowned in Spring Creek beside the toll bar.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/7387/BYx5VR.png

This photo shows the complicated schedule of toll fees.

Let’s take a look at the 2 blowholes.

Kiama Blowhole is just over 2km from the toll bar as indicated by the yellow line.

Here’s a photo showing the road over the abandoned bridge.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/1342/PhdR1y.jpg

Now to find the location of the first wooden bridge that was allegedly haunted by two men. In a newspaper article which I can’t find again, I remember reading about the first bridge being built 50 metres downstream from the deadly crossing.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/6514/gWbh8O.png

And there it is, the remains of the first wooden bridge, you can see the remains along the rock wall. It was built in 1861 and replaced by the abandoned concrete bridge beside it in 1915.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/3576/U0hHZ2.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/9427/D9V8Vn.png

In 1942, the abandoned bridge was replaced by a third bridge used today.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/3955/OzJshg.png

Here’s Hore St, named after Charles 'Charlie' Patrick Hore, 1 year and 10 months old who was swept away at the crossing along with 16 year old Catherine McCormack.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/4471/k1XXaD.png

Here’s the location of Marion Hamilton who was fatally shot in the front yard on the corner of Prince Edward Dr and Hore St. Not sure which house she lived in.

Hi KANACKI

Here’s a map showing Dapto Road through Brownsville over the abandoned bridge.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8592/l8cKmI.png

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/9483/JirDyK.png

But where was the location of Mullet Creek crossing that claimed many lives?

Here’s a photo of the deadly crossing, the location of the houses, the railway bridge in the background and the bend of the river is interesting.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/8324/lzJHDx.jpg

Here’s where I think the crossing was located going by the above photo, where the water levee is today.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/9310/qmDBN3.png

Here’s a photo showing a distance of 360 metres between the old water levee and the railway bridge in the above old photo.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/6079/R7TXj2.png

Some other photos of the crossing, the first photo was taken in 1900, the same year Catherine McCormack, 16 years old and Charles 'Charlie' Patrick Hore, 1 year, 10 months were swept away to their deaths.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/4797/rXX5ry.png

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/15/lAaQOL.jpg

So where was the location of the first bridge?

Hello Headless

I remember the place black and white they must of painted the place recently. The bridge was I believe part of the original south coast road before the princess hwy.

I think the princes HWY only came about in 1942? Not sure got to look that up.

Hi KANACKI

When a mate and I first discovered the hut in the early 1980s, someone at the time was living in there. Clothes, cooking utensils, tools and other items were neatly stored. We both became paranoid about the owner returning, we knew nothing about the Bloody Mile and remember my mate clearly saying “I think he’s watching us” and we quickly left the area.

The hut would’ve been at least 2 metres wide by at least 4 metres in length. I don’t remember what the roof looked like, there’s a lot of modern building materials scattered in the area, I’ll imagine over the years the local kids jumping the tip fence to gather materials for their little hideout, completely unaware of the dark history that surrounds them.

Hello Headless well done with photographs. Very interesting.

In answer to your question most likely. But how much has survived after 100 years? its hard to tell? Some of tin looked newer than nearly 100 years old but other rusted tin sheets on the ground look much older. Some one might of lived their long after Simpsons time?

Did you see any sign of a campfire?

Here I experienced another sense of trespassing and a feeling of copping a hefty fine, I’m about 60 metres from the northern end of the railway bridge.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/4378/fLRJuo.jpg

In this photo I’m about 40 metres from the sub-station.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/6514/fXYuvI.jpg

Here’s the location.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/9237/pu2spA.png

Overall, it’s only 170 metres from the picnic table, however, it’ll feel like 1.7km without Aerogard.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/3699/fJCvfo.png

One question remains, is the pile of old rotting timber the once proud home of George Simpson?
