Title: Ghost hitchhiker of Port Wakefield: SA
Post by: KANACKI on June 12, 2019, 07:52:45 PM
There is story of ghostly encounters of a lone hitchhiker near Port Wakefeild South Australia.

The alleged Ghost hitchhiker is of a young man in Airforce uniform.

One story tells of a couple who picked a young male hitchhiker, dressed in an air force uniform.  He sat in the rear seat and when asked, he said he wished to be dropped off at an address in Adelaide.  When they arrived at the address they looked around and he was gone; they went into the address and spoke to the woman who lived there.  When they told the woman the name which the young man had given them, she said “that’s my son who was killed in a plane crash during a training flight out of Mallala during World War 2”.  It is believed his body was recovered and buried in an unknown location, and that his spirit is still trying to get home to Mum.

to be continued.....

Who was this mysterious ghost that haunts the roads near Port Wakefield ?

There was a report of accidental death of young flyer in 1940. In the  News (Adelaide, SA : 1923 - 1954)  Sat 31 Aug 1940 newspaper below.

Flier Dies In Night Crash At Wagga MELBOURNE, Saturday.-When an R.A.A.F. training plane crashed half a mile east of Wagga last night, its only occupant was killed instantly. The flier was Leading Aircraftman
Thomas Tweedie, 22, of South Brisbane.

Tweedie had been attached for five weeks to the service flying training school at Wagga, where he was doing his intermediate pilot's training. The crash occurred at 10.55 p.m. The pilot was practising solo night flying, and had completed two circuits and landings before the crash. On the third circuit the machine spun to the ground.

Tweedie joined the R.A.A.F. on April 29, and was one of the first batch of Empire Air Scheme trainees to go to Archerfield Elementary Flying Training School, Brisbane. He was posted from there to Wagga School.

Was Thomas Tweedle the ghost that haunts the roads of Port Wakefield? In article says he was from south Brisbane. but did his mum live in Brisbane or Adelaide?

Another tale is that of a local businessman, who recounted how the ghost was picked up one night heading into Port Wakefield.  He related how he was entering the toilets at the Shell Service Station behind a man in a RAAF uniform. The uniformed person went inside first and when the businessman entered the room straight after him, the man had disappeared!

Hi KANACKI, given that in the first Post the Spectre told the couple where he lived, it is most probable it is the hitchhiker from Port Wakefield.

The only other possibility is that somehow there is a "living connection" between this airman killed in the accident in Mallala in WW11 and Thomas Tweedle who died in a plane crash accident near Wagga in 1954.

But no, it is the Spectre of the airman Killed during WW11, because he "did" know his address.

Hello Simon.

Good Point but I think I led you astray once again the date of death was not 1954 but around 31 of August 1940. I have more to write about the Air force base in Wagga NSW. It has a ghost haunting the base itself.
