Uh-oh..... no arrests please C.  We've had enough drama for the moment.

May I suggest a disguise such as a nun's outfit when you visit this place. (Who knows - the ladies in black who haunt the place may take a liking to you and provide some good evp's).

Hehe, a bit of effect doesn't hurt, maybe not the full nun but a prop or two for atmosphere could be good.

I liked the lanterns they used at the night tour of the Quarantine Station in NSW. Every pair had to carry an old-fashioned lantern that draped and wafted eloquent shadows around the group. They were practical but they also created great mood.

Lanterns make sense.  They actually have a function.   To me, costumes say that its all a spoof, like a halloween tour, and not for a serious ghost enthusiast.

i like the idea of the lanterns in a dimly lit convent..LOTS of corners for shadows, and imaginations to run riot.

They had lanterns at the Port Arthur Night Ghost Walk Tour we went on.  It was fantastic - the shadows are amazing on the old stone walls of the ruins.

I have seen some shows that use costume during investigations. They get some good results. They seem to think that the ghosts think you are part of them.

Hi everyone, I went on this tour and was really pleased to be told it was the first one. I went with my wife and friend and to be honest not quite what I expected. As a newbie my previous expereience on the topic came from TV (most haunted) and well - you know.

Anyway Christine was absolutely marvellous and so in tune with what was happening there. So much so I had to join this group.

I was able to experience a couple of things that night that did not scare me at all but just helped me understand. The upstairs room of the pretty nun looking at the window was terrific. I felt her presence and could almost describe what she must have looked like. The chapel I certainly heard the whispering voices and the room next to that went really cold in one corner.

Taling to Christine at the end of the night with a coffee was also a highlight. I had no idea of how seriously someone like Christine takes her work. Again TV has corrupted me here. Apologies for that. I must have asked Christine 50 odd questions which totally corrected the misinformation I had. Nedeless to say no more Most Haunted. After speaking with Christine and learning so much I would love to learn more and help out with an investigation.

Overall I would recommend this tour to anyone. Cheers for now Sharpie

In my opinion the orbs that people refer to in photos are not spirits.

There are spirit lights, however, but they don't show up as circular blobs in photos.  In fact I'd say you'd be very lucky to ever catch one in a photo at all.

Eg.  When I was down in the Haunted Vaults below Edinburgh, Scotland, I saw a beautiful blue spirit light several times.  Yes it was round, but it was not an orb, and try as I did, I did not catch it in a photo.

Orbs in photos can be anything from dust, to moisture, to a bug, who knows what.  Just ordinary stuff that happens to be there, and shows up in the photo, as do specks of dust and so on.  Eg.  Down in the Queen Mary, in the belly of the ship, there's lots of rust particles in the air, and consequently, the 'orbs' in photos are all red....... because they're red rust particles.  In fact there's so many that some of my photos were ruined by these red dots.

I don't profess to be an expert on orbs.  This was just my opinion, and I hope I haven't offended anyone who does believe orbs are spirits.  Each to their own.

in 99.9999999999999999999999 percent of cases, orbs are nothing to do with spirits.  and i haven't seen that .00000000000000001 percent yet.

Orbs are not spirits. Possibly the only excception to that is in a sterile environment with other supporting evidence, not possible for the avergae punter. As I said, do a search on here on this forum for orbs and false positives to learn more.

The convent is thrilling to visit.

My husband Stephan and I explored the convent yesterday on Christine and lotsa's recommendation. Now I would like to join a tour even more. Here are my jottings about our impressions.

+-+-+-Bad Habits cafe-+-+-+
The coffee and Moroccan orange cake were superb... Steph and I both felt lumps in our throats and I felt constriction and some pain around my throat.

+-+-+-Entering the gallery-+-+-+
I felt a jolt of dislike when I first heard ambient Frank Sinatra / Dean Martin through the gallery speakers.

+-+-+-The nuns' cells-+-+-+
We were tipped by Christine to touch the window in the unfurnished cell. For me the furnished cell had presence. I felt claustrophobic and constricted in the chest in both cells. The unfurnished cell had me breathless but I had just walked up the steep stairs. Steph felt vibration touching the window.

+-+-+-Room adjacent to nuns's cells, with fireplace-+-+-+
Walking through the middle of this room, we both felt pain in our right arms. The views are enormous and so beautiful. My ears blocked sitting opposite the fireplace admiring them.

+-+-+-Chapel-+-+-+
This was the clearest experience for me. I heard a single soprano chord from a choir. It was distinct, eerie, and quite different in tone from the gallery music.

+-+-+-Museum-+-+-+
We disliked the diving staircase and both strongly felt we shouldn't be in this room. Steph and I also strongly felt we were much too big for the room--a logical impression given we are both tall and the ceiling was low. It was a very uncomfortable space, we felt unwelcome.

My impressions were, it felt like a 'man's room' (i e not for me), a powerful person's room. I felt I was being cheeky sitting in the chair furthest from the fireplace. The table gave me a sense of cold, important, perhaps petty people making businesslike decisions.

Steph's thoughts were, it was a small man's room, 'like a leprechaun's cave'. He wondered where the leprechaun's treasure / gold was--he felt something valuable was missing and had belonged to the small man.

+-+-+

Neither Steph or I would claim to be sensitive but the place seemed vibrant to us. I wanted to dismiss many of the physical sensations as unfitness, coffee buzz etc. but when we left the convent they vanished. I'd be interested to know if we picked up anything in common with the experts.

Hehe I know what you mean mgb, I am a big chicken too. I feel safe with Christine there though! She doesn't put up with any truck from anything.

I'm intrigued too about the small man's missing possession. Do you know what it is or is this a new idea?

Wow to both Violet and Stef. I can't believe you say you aren't particularly able to pick up stuff that mediums and psychics struggle with. You are very accurate!!! VERy accurate!! We didn't give you the detaiils so you will be blown away.

Janine do you want to tell them ? lol
Title: Re: Daylesford Ghost Tours starting April 2010
Post by: lotsakids on January 08, 2011, 08:51:17 PM
well, what stood out for me most was the 'little man' in the museum...and the valuable thing he lost

our psychics pick up a priest as 'owning' this room..he looks at it as his domain, he is not terribly friendly, especially toward women, whom he refers to as 'girlie'...whether he had this room as his in life or whether he has claimed it as his after death is not really certain..but he is there now, and he insists the chair at the end of the table is his...

from memory he was quite tall in stature [please correct me if i am wrong]..but from what i have gathered he had little man syndrome..

the fact that he was tallish is interesting because you made comments about the size of the room compared to your heights...

there were probably things discussed in that room..he probably thought he was pretty important in the scheme of things....and no doubt things were discussed there

now the thing that was lost....was a ring he wore on his finger....a gold ring with a ruby, the story is that it fell off his finger one day while conducting a sermon..and while all and sundry looked for it, that ring was never found...

so there you go...

I knew it! Steph has some psychic ability. I believe his parents do too.

Steph often makes decisions that he can't explain, based on intuition and he is always right. (Very annoying sometimes hehe.) His parents have an uncanny knack for casually being in the right place at the right time.

You might have suspected Christine after he sensed the gate / checkpoint at the airport. He said later he caught a glimpse of the way things were, like the past overlaid on the present. For anyone who doesn't know, I could not see any notable evidence left of the checkpoint.

I get all sorts of zaps from these two pics, but that maybe because I picked up on so much when I have been there in person.  I'm probably tainted because of that.  The second pic really looks like someone sitting on the pew,  LOL.   Now the guys will come up with a perfectly logical reason for this.  ROFL
Title: Re: Daylesford Ghost Tours starting April 2010
Post by: lotsakids on January 27, 2011, 09:52:13 PM
the bit where it looks like someone on the pew, i think is the plasterwork on the wall in the corner..if you look on the side of the doorframe you can see where it starts, and there are also some patches of repair work on the side wall too..must have a look next time
Title: Re: Daylesford Ghost Tours starting April 2010
Post by: GaryTheDemon on January 27, 2011, 10:34:50 PM
My considered opinion earlier was that the one of the 'table' was reflected light.  The other mystified me.

However, I have come back to them and have the following opinions.....  which might be right or might not.

There is clear indication of double exposure which often happens with a 1 sec exposure and flash.  Allowing for this and the point where the main flash occurred, I think it's likely that this is essentially light pollution from the flash.  IMHO.  (I'm sorry though that the image on the screen is not so clear in showing this as when I blow it up on my mac..... if you look closely at the two blue circles, the larger clearly shows a duplicate image of the table while the small actually does show a duplicate image of the corner which has reflected the flash.  Flashes, by the way, often do pre-flashes before the big ones to aid with focus etc and red-eye reduction.....

This one flummoxed me.  I had no explanation of it.  Only now I notice that (as highlighted) there is actually banding which matches the lines of the pew.  Furthermore, when I look at the light breakup in the picture, it seems consistent with a diagonal movement of the camera (which explains the banding which are pew tops).

To be sure, I broke the image into Red/Green/Blue.  If it was as I thought, then I'd expect to see much of the image in the red channel, slightly less in the green and nothing in the blue.  That was exactly what I found.

So I must (red faced) own up to the fact that I have to put this down to camera movement and flash.

Of course, it IS possible that the light sources were not related to the flash - that is just one explanation and hardly a 100% guarenteed one at that.

I'd make one suggestion for future photographs if possible - tripod.  If we can rule out such effects then what's left will stand up much better as being paranormal....

Title: Re: Daylesford Ghost Tours starting April 2010
Post by: lotsakids on January 27, 2011, 11:35:24 PM
if i remember rightly there were a series of flashes then only one click...so i think it was only taking single shots..but you'd have to ask rusty
Title: Re: Daylesford Ghost Tours starting April 2010
Post by: GaryTheDemon on January 27, 2011, 11:45:59 PM
It's certainly a common thing - many cameras  use the flash as a focussing aid.  It's also used to help reduce red-eye.  When the shutter speed is 1/100 then you are less likely to notice any of these effects but if the shutter speed falls below 1/60 there's always a risk.  It can actually make for some brilliant photography of course.

If I'm shooting in these sorts of situations (and I am able to) I use a tripod and a timer of say 2 seconds.  That gives me plenty of time to be hands off when the shutter goes.  I also make sure I turn off red-eye reduction also.

As cameras get more sophisticated, there can be other issues too.  Some will adjust the contrast and brightness based on what it *thinks* is a good picture.  When that happens, the results can be less than satisfying.  As a general rule I try to turn off anything that the manufacturers thinks is a great feature LOL.

My new camera shoots full spectrum which means IR and Whitelight.  This means I can tripod it and shoot a scene normally as well as in IR and be able to compare the results - pixel for pixel.  It also means I can shoot three images - IR, IR+WL, WL which can be very interesting in terms of the paranormal.  NOT that I've really had a chance to try yet.  AND I want to find a good IR spotlight....... the little ones I've seen in Jaycar don't seem to have much ooomph behind them :(
