These cats roam an area roughly between Horsham, Hamilton, Ararat, Maryborough and St Arnaud. Their habitat bases them in the Grampian Mountains.
Witnesses report almost as many brown puma-like animals as black ones.

1969 Byaduk.
24 kilometers south of Hamilton.
Farmer mending a fence saw a cat-like animal running across his field. Arox.. 4ft ling and 3ft high, cat like head and silver-grey coat. Farmer saw it for 5 or 6 minutes. It had a cat like head but had 2 large fangs jutting down from its top draw.

Halls Gap, February 1971
A Mr W had 3 puma sightings in the Grampian Area. Once in 1971 and twice in August 1989
In 1971 he and his 2 sons were photographing birds near Halls Gap. it was 5:30am and he had just used the last of his film when his sons drew his attention to 2 cats.
The pumas strolled casually out of the bush and down a track towards them, right passed them and across a bridge and into some trees. The cats were a smokey 'grey to tan' color and looked identical.
Mr W worked as a zoo keeper before emigrating from the UK to Australia.
His next 2 sightings were made from moving cars.

Syphon Road, 1982.
Miss R, Mr P and Mr P saw a large cat crossing this road in the heart of the Grampians. They stopped to look and saw it sitting in the fork of a tree. It had yellow-green eyes, with a thick black velvet like fur.

1985
Mr F was living in a caravan next to his burnt farmhouse after the fires had been through. One night he saw 3 cats. He thought they looked like 3 female lions. he grabbed his shovel and backed up to his fire.
A couple of weeks later his nephew walked out of the dunny and stumbled into the 3 of them. He scared the cats and himself. They later saw the cats quite often in daylight. The largest, dark brown in color was feale, the other 2 they felt, were half grown cubs, ginger colored ans male and female. They were about the size of a dobberman.

Mt Bealiba 1988
One evening Mr H and his brother were walking on a forest track. They were heading for a paddock that they new had many rabbits. They heard something running at a fast pace. It was a large black cat chasing a rabbit.

Daisy Hill 1982
Constable F was driving near Daisy Hill, south of Marlborough when an enormous black cat jumped out from cleared paddocks on his left and ran in front of his car and up an embankment on his right.
The cats was 2.7 meters long, and had a powerfully built body. Small head,relative to his body and weighed approximately 90 kilos.
Constable F picked up Senior Sergeant D and drove back to the scene. They discovered huge footprints coming up from the side of the road, the animal had sunk into the mud, and you could see the muddy prints on the road, deep footprints and slip marks where it had scrambled up the bank on the other side. On the level ground there was no sign of claw marks, but up the southern bank you could see enormous claw marks digging into the ground.

Grampian Ranges 1984
Constable A claimed to have sighted black cats, in pairs, on 2 seperate occasions. On 14th October, he saw a female and cub.
The adult animals were estimated at 60 centimeters high at the shoulder and 1.5 meters long. They were fast!

Wedderburn 30 September 1988.
Calder Highway, 10 kilometers from Wedderburn.
Sgt W saw a fawn colored puma comparable in size to a female labrador.

Daisy Hill 1990
Mr W has worked with big cats for 17 years and has a small private zoo near Maryborough. In his collection he has a lion, lioness a black leopard and a puma.
he saw a big black feline crossing the road by Daisy Hill. it was bigger than a shepherd and its tail was about a meter long. it looked like a black panther. He found very big feline prints.

I am writing a book about paranormal events in the Wimmera Districts of Victoria, which includes ghosts, UFO's and the Grampians Puma. I would like to hear from anyone with any of the above mentioned topics who have had encounters or know of anyone who has.
If any members of any investigations groups happen to read this post, I would like to hear from you for possible comments and collaboration on your findings within their teams regarding the Grampians national park.

I was talking to a winery owner today who spent 20 odd years as the Grampians Forestry Ranger so I asked him if he has ever seen the Puma which he had.
Interestingly enough, he did his research many years ago and learned that a homestead in the district went bankrupt in the late 1800's. These people had quite an extensive 'personal' zoo and reportedly had several big cat species. When the farm closed, they simply opened the gate and let out all the animals into the bush.
I thought it might be worth a mention.

Longeranong Homestead. It's currently for sale, if you look on realestate.com and search Horsham for the $1m mark, you'll find it. The owners are quite private people. It's a MAGNIFICENT homestead, in it's day it was on 200,000 hectares (marginally larger than Grampians National Park)
