Big cat mysteries continue in Gippsland

BIG cats, yowies, Tasmanian tigers.
The mysteries of the Gippsland bush have intrigued people for decades.
Professed sightings of these creatures tend to bring the `believers' out of the woodwork and generate a curiosity, that for some, never goes away.
We've all heard the stories. A glimpse or flash of a big black cat.
There are of course the sceptics, along with the secret believers and those who really want to believe but need more convincing.
Traralgon man Ron Field doesn't claim to know much about big cats.
But what he does know is two weeks ago he saw something. Something very strange.
While driving along the Princes Highway between Morwell and Traralgon about 10.20pm, Mr Field and wife Anna saw a large animal dart across the road.
``It was black, sleek, with long legs and a long-ish tale,'' Mr Field said.
``I didn't really see its face, so I'm not sure what it was.''
He said the animal was about 80cm tall.
``I very near hit it,'' he said.
Mr Field couldn't make out exactly what the animal was but said it was like nothing he'd ever seen before.
``I've read other reports of sightings and thought it might be of interest to others.''
Whatever you think Mr Field may have seen, there's no doubt the mysteries of the Gippsland bush will continue to capture the imagination of many.
