Macleay Museum Sydney Uni - Under the Blue Moon Festival
« on: August 25, 2006, 10:18:30 PM »
Sydney University opens the Doors of the beautiful Macleay Museum for the Under the Blue Moon Festival 2006, at 1pm.

Entering from the 21st Century, visitors to the Macleay Museum take a step back to 19th Century Australia when explorers and scientists took their first glances at some of the strangest animals yet to be seen on earth...

It was the life's work of the prominent Macleay family in Australia to collect and document the incredible wildlife of the new colony, and such an endeavour was the foundation of the wonderful (and sometimes weird) museum collection hidden away on the top floor of the Macleay building at the University of Sydney. SEE! Giant crab claws, two headed goat skulls, whale skeletons, scorpions and spiders bigger than your hand... not to forget the fearsome BUNYIP SKULL!

Join your guide (and guardian), DarkElvis, as you immerse your senses in one of Sydney's hidden mysteries and treasure troves of Australian natural and cultural heritage, for a special weekend opening especially for Under the Blue Moon Festival 2006. Free of charge... donations welcome. Meet at 1pm, Gosper Lane (off Science Rd), on the Parramatta Rd side of the University of Sydney near the Anzac Arch.

Tim Ikin is currently assisting with the care and maintainence of the Scientific Instrument Collection at the Macleay Museum.

I've been looking in the mirror for so long.

If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.
