Throat cutting Ghost of Pimpama Creek: Ormeau: QLD
« on: November 08, 2020, 11:36:03 AM »
Can a murdered victim refuse to pass over to other side until they fell their killer or killers is brought to justice?

The once proud little town of Ormeau is rapidly being engulfed by the urban corridor that links Brisbane and the Gold Coast. In the 1870s Ormeau was the home of an odd character named (sorry we don't allow swearing on the forum) Edwards. Reputedly a well-educated man, Edwards lived as a recluse in a small hut on the banks of Pimpama Creek. He made a meagre living cutting wooden fence posts and roof shingles.

Periodically, Edwards would drown his sorrows in local rum. On what was to be the last of these benders, he was missing longer than usual. A neighbour went to his hut to investigate. He found a razor lying on the floor and Edwards’ decomposing body on the bed- his throat cut from ear to ear.

A verdict of ‘death by suicide’ was brought down at the inquest and the file on (sorry we don't allow swearing on the forum) Edwards closed, but within days local residents reported seeing his ghost wandering along the bank of the creek.

Today the site can be easy visited where this ghastly apparition was occasionally sighted....

The following picture below show the site of the alleged haunting....

For those who cannot see the pictures I suggest you sign up the the forum and experience a wonderful journey into the dark history and folklore out our great nation.

In March 1878, two and half years later, the proprietor of the Pimpama Hotel, Simon Lipstone, had a very unnerving encounter with him. Lipstone was approaching the log crossing over Pimpama Creek on horseback at about nine o’clock one night.

A filmy figure dressed in white with a horribly scarred throat appeared beside him. The publican asked the spectre its name. The reply that came was a hair-raising scream the like of which Lipstone had never heard before. The terrified rider dug his heels in and galloped for home as though all the fiends in hell were on his tail.

Was it the vengeful ghost of Edwards caught between the living and dead trying tell us some thing?

Here is picture of the old Pimpama Hotel below.

The story could have easily forgotten. Yet in in 1914  a fisherman by the name of William Smith sitting by the river back fishing when he detected a presence near him in the dark.  Looking behind him he saw a tall dark figure with his hand stretch out. As the startled fishermen try to say some thing the figure left out an unearthly scream and vanishing.

Needless to say William  never fished there again.
