Haunted Overlander Hotel SA
« on: December 04, 2015, 06:37:40 PM »
Is the Overlander Hotel in South Australia haunted?

Many who visit this quaint country pub believe so, and this ghost photo shown below  with a blown up detail causes many to wonder?

Built in 1859, this historic hotel has been home to drovers, overlanders, and beer. The hotel is built on the site of Overland Corner, which was a resting place for drovers (men who move livestock). The Brand brothers, who built the hotel, are pictured in the ghost photo. Famous for ghost activity, the Overland Hotel is believed to be haunted by the ghost of the man with beard whose head appears up top and to the left in the photo.

Ghost stories of old hotels abound, but is this ghost photo proof of the hotel being haunted? If this is so
then it has been haunted for over 150 years .

Do you see a bearded man peering over the shoulder of the dark-haired gentleman? Many believe this to be an authentic ghost photo. It still hangs inside the hotel amazing visitors who care to visit this haunted hotel today.

I will let you be the judge of that of course.

Strange photograph indeed although it seems the ghost is only one that shaves... ;D

Perhaps its the ghost of the local barber who died from starvation the lack of work shaven ? ;D

All jokes aside a mysterious old photograph and a quaint little bush pub on the corner of two states. And if this ripper of a little ghost yarn keeps drinker coming through the door I am all for it.

Bottoms up.

Here is some more information on the old hotel.

The Historic Overland Corner Hotel is situated along the Goyder Highway, 21 kilometres from Barmera in the Riverland, South Australia.

Originally set up as a watering hole for drovers and overlanders operating between New South Wales and the Adelaide Colony, it also served as a temporary camping ground for steamers passing through on the River Murray, which flows a mere 600ft from the hotel. The historic building was erected in 1859, and since that time has served as a staging point, a general store, a police station and even the local Post Office.

In 1965, the building was purchased by the National Trust of South Australia and, with the aid of locally raised and commonwealth funding, the fossilised limestone building was completely restored. It now stands as a beacon of history in the Riverland, and is the oldest structure to remain standing in the area. Today, the Overland Corner operates as a hotel, serving some of the finest cuisine in the Riverland amongst the beautiful backdrop and serene settings of Overland Corner.

With regular live events, several of the finest locally brewed beers and wines, and a friendly and comfortable atmosphere, the Historic Overland Corner Hotel is a 'must visit' location for locals and travellers alike.

One question springs to mind? Do stone building retain sounds and images of past occupants and on certain occasion release the charge of images and sounds as a ghost haunting?
