Restless Spirit of Brooklyn House: Howard QLD
« on: March 02, 2020, 09:03:52 AM »
Even in Sunny tropical Queensland. You can find haunted houses.

Brooklyn House is a historical  Queensland home built in 1890. Brooklyn House, with its 14 feet high ceilings, marble mantelpieces, cedar and beech panelling comprising six bedrooms, two bathrooms, lounge and dining room, study, sun room, kitchen with eating nook, upstairs  apartment, open 9 feet wide verandas on three sides, a grand double stairway entrance and four marble fireplaces.

Once run down and abandoned and the haunt of teenagers in which stories circulated about it being haunted? To day its a restored building reflecting the history of another time and place.

to be continued....

The house was built for Dame Annabelle Rankin, a famous politician: Dame Annabelle Jane Mary Rankin DBE (28 July 1908 – 30 August 1986) was the second woman member of the Australian Senate, the first woman from Queensland to sit in the Parliament of Australia, the first Australian woman to have a federal portfolio and the first Australian woman to be appointed head of a foreign mission.

Does she still haunt the place?

The apparition of a woman in white has been seen staring out of the windows of the house. Former residents claim to have heard footsteps, strange sounds and ghostly laughter and chattering. Cigar smoke and alcohol have been smelt in the smoker’s room when none is present.

Is it a time slip of past events or a lost spirit waiting to pass over.  Perhaps the ghosts memories of this place is so fond that it does not want to pass over?

Or did some thing happen in this house few if anyone knew about?

I need to think on this one KANACKI as there may be two solutions required; who is the apparition and do we have past memories (smell of cigar smoke and alcohol, etc.).
To practice five things under all circumstances constitutes perfect virtue;

These five are gravity, generosity of (the) soul, sincerity, earnestness and kindness.

Hello Simon

There was a report of Body being found of an unidentified man floating in the river near Howard. He was never identified. His head was smashed in? It was assumed that he was hit by a train. No one could identify the stranger? Was he the cigar smoking ghost in the house. Did a murder take place in 1919 and his body dumped off the train bridge? Was he a WW1 veteran returning to Brooklyn house perhaps wanting to expose a dark secret? Did Annabelle Rankin's mother have an affair with man that went off to war only return perhaps blackmail Annabelle Rankin's parents?

A fight broke out after drinking and smoking resulting in a fatal fight resulting in death, and in panic the perpertraitors of this crime dumped the body off the bridge?

May be the women in white is Annabelle Rankin's restless spirit consumed with guilt over the death of her lover and possible the real father of her child?

Annabelle Rankin would of been 11 years old when these events took place. Here is a picture of her as baby the women in white behind her is her mother taken around 1908.

Here is a newspaper report dated from 1919 about the body of a man aged about 50 found 1 mile from Howard under the railway Bridge. He had extensive head injuries but no damage any where else except on his hand. Did he die in a fight and was repeatedly smashed over the head with a bunt object?

So many questions yet so few answers...But perhaps that is a possible solution to the ghosts haunting Brooklyn house at Howard? A ghost trapped by guilt and another trapped by wanting justice unable to pass onto into history?

One seeking redemption the other seeking recognition?

A puzzle indeed KANACKI, which I still need to meditate about. LOL

If I  had any intuition Some thing happened in that house connected to the parents of  Dame Annabelle Rankin?

Murder or accidental death covered up?  Some thing I  fear unfinished...unable to pass over perhaps?

Yes KANACKI, no such thing as a coincidence and there are to many in this story.

It appears that a spirit cannot, or will not, move on until the murder is investigated more fully.
