The Dunwich Horror :North Stradbroke Island QLD
« on: June 18, 2019, 01:04:34 AM »
Can a sinister evil infect the very fabric of a building?

Until replaced by Boggo Road Jail in 1932, St Helena Island in Moreton Bay was Brisbane's main prison. At some time after its closure one of the cottages from the old penal settlement was relocated to Peel Island (another spot with a gruesome history, a one-time leper colony), and from there to Dunwich on North Stradbroke Island. A cottage that was not only moved once but twice....

At Dunwich it was named Marie Rose Cottage and served as living quarters for ambulance officers seconded from the mainland. Its innocuous appearance, however, was deceiving; something evil out of the building had many believed came with it?

to be continued....

One ambulance officer still feels horror when he tells of his encounter with a demon-like creature in the bedroom of the cottage in 1988. The memory of the creature's face still haunts him: It had a deeply furrowed forehead, a sinister mouth with broken and filthy teeth and glowing, orange eyes. From its mouth came a soft hissing sound and a putrid smell.

It took all the ambulance officer's strength, mental and physical, to escape its, powerful grip and the struggle left him badly bruised. The stench remained in the room for two days.

Too many others have had similar experiences in and around this innocent- looking building to dismiss their stories. Whatever the abomination is, it is not human and never was. Marie Rose Cottage was demolished a couple of years ago to make way for a new ambulance station and the demon has not been seen since, but perhaps it's too early to consign it to history just yet?

Or is it?

The building has long been long since 1988 demolished.... But some say the resident evil still lingers in the new Marie Rose medical centre.

In 2008 a patient was horrified to see an apparition of a strange looking character standing or lurking near the corner of the building. The centre now health care centre. While it would not look some much out of the ordinary a disfigured person. But when she mentioned the man loitering out front the receptionist went out to see and said there was no one there.

She was insistent she saw this wretched figure of a man horribly disfigured with an evil almost insane grin on his face. She said the sight of him made the hairs stand up on the back of your neck and sent a shiver down your spine. While she felt terrible for what she seemed as poor wretched creature. It was just no way he could of vanished like he did? The scary thing of all was smell that lingered... Like some thing rotten.

Incidentally the original timber building had been at Peel Island. Was this apparition A apparition that traveled with the old wooden building when it was moved from Peel island leper colony. Stranger still is the old timber building is now totally demolished yet the apparition still allegedly haunts the Final sport where the timber build was demolished?

KANACKI, what a very interesting story of Peel Island in 1988.

Thanks to the ambulance officer's description and the fact that Peel Island was also an old Leper Colony.

I have done a quick search of the Internet  and also viewed some quite distressing pictures of how Leprosy can cause quite horrific changes, both externally and internally, on an infected patient, refer links below:

https://www.healthline.com/health/leprosy

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leprosy

One of the many internal changes is to the upper respiratory track (refer quote below, from the first link).

"Leprosy is a chronic, progressive bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. It primarily affects the nerves of the extremities, the skin, the lining of the nose, and the upper respiratory tract. Leprosy is also known as Hansen’s disease."

I think the Spirit may be that of a dead Leper (note spelling difference of the word "Leper" [USA "Leper" versus UK Lepor] who passed away on Peel Island, most probably the Spirit was disturbed by the first erection of the cottage, which was taken from St. Helena Island in 1932.

The "hissing" sound would be due to the possible damage to the upper respiratory track, along with the change in the pigmentation of the eyes to perhaps "orange".

The descriptions and the smell are, I believe, also consistent with the Spirit having Leprecy in Past Life.

The poor Spirit needs and probably wants to Passover.

A very sad tale KANACKI, very sad.

Hello Simon

Wow thanks for the information. It would make sense this spirit was suffering from leprosy. it would be a terrible slow death to have. Perhaps the spirit never gave up trying to get a cure? Even after death?

Spot on KANACKI, another wonderful point.

Spirits in this "twilight state" invariably think more "physically" as if they are still living, rather than dead, which makes this state of being (neither of the Physical or Spiritual worlds) all the more saddening.

We could also say its shinning example on the human spirit determined to live when physically dead.

I am curious to know if any else has encountered the alleged ghost?
