The Haunted Miss Porters House: Newcastle NSW
« on: May 17, 2019, 07:28:31 PM »
Miss Porter’s House is situated in Newcastle West and is reported to be a hot bead of  paranormal activity.

Herbert Porter and his family moved into their new house in 1910. His two daughters Ella and Hazel remained single and lived in the house until Hazel’s passing in 1997.

The Edwardian terrace house contains 100 years of collectibles, 1909 – 1940 furniture, unique architectural features as well as the alleged ghosts of family members, including Mr.Herbert Porter himself, who has stayed on in spirit to take care of his beloved home.

Stories have circulated for last 20 odd years the ghost of the family still haunt the house which is now a national trust property. Are the allegations true?

You can find out for yourself as the house can be visited by day. And Ghost tours are available. Is the house haunted or just an atmosphere of faded memories?

I found this on the National Trust website

If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.

Looks like it would be worth a visit.

Hello Christine and Violet. I think visiting the house will give an amazing insight into late 19th early 20th century living conditions. A real glimpse into the past. And perhaps a lost soul or two?

Yes, I agree but feel sad that a Spirit has chosen to stay on, even in such a magnificent house.
To practice five things under all circumstances constitutes perfect virtue;

These five are gravity, generosity of (the) soul, sincerity, earnestness and kindness.

The question that bugs me. Why would she want to remain behind? In her final moments of life she must of realized her passing she would re united with those she once knew. Or perhaps death forgets all?  Perhaps it the fear of the great unknown?

KANACKI, in "most" cases when people die "death" does not cause total loss of the essence that was the person who died, but rather it moves with the person in the Spirit, which now embodies the last life occupied.

There appears to be, in this tale, a greater pull on a "Physical Love" for the house than that of the love for those that went before, or after for that matter, Herbert Porter.

KANACKI, how do you know it is Herbert who is "haunting" his home?

The reason I ask is that in the second paragraph I actually wrote Hazels' name for some reason instead of Herbert's', hence my query.

Hello Simon

Some interesting points you make love of house or love of family? Very interesting. I have not visited the site personalty, although I would like to visit there some day. There has been several claims not just of one ghost but several family members or perhaps some one else?
