South Australia has its fair share of alleged haunted mansions.
Designed by iconic South Australian architect; John Quinton Bruce for Fred Scarfe, A Director of South Australian department store icon, Harris Scarfes, Stonehenge, as the building was named, is a beautiful building located in North Adelaide.
It like many other grand old houses have an interesting story and a ghost connected to its ancient walls.
As you can see in the pictures posted below of the house that is going through gradual restoration. There is no more a building that has the persona of what haunted house should look like out of horror movie.
Its history and alleged ghost is an interesting yarn....

Frederick George Alexander Scarfe is actually the man who built the impressive house, he was a director of Harris Scarfes at the time, and a very wealthy individual. The building consists of 15 main rooms including a gracious reception hallway and a sweeping grand staircase. There is also a Ballroom, a formal lounge-room, Library and formal dining room, plus 5 bedrooms and a wine cellar, so as you can imagine this is a very grand house designed and built for a very wealthy man.
The house was often featured in local newspaper stories as Mr Scarfe would host his own events, Grand Balls and parties, in his home. In 1919 Frederick Scarfe sold the house for an impressive sum, citing in adds that he found the housekeeping tasks laborious, being such a large manner.

The alleged haunting it is said of a young girl. The young lady appears in an upstairs bedroom known as the Blue room, it is stated that she only appears during the hours of 11pm and 5am and walks from the blue room, to a bathroom, or up the extravagant staircase. She is dressed in a white night gown like the picture shown posted below.
It is thought the spirit is that of a young girl who died in the house from tuberculosis around the 1920's,
Was there any truth to the alleged haunting?

In 1994, The Adelaide Advertiser (April 24th 1994) published a story about the house featuring a local business man who had purchased the house for $1.2 million dollars, only to find out that the house is haunted by a young lady.
His picture is posted below....
It has also been reported that whenever renovations take place in the house, the ghost becomes very hostile and begins to throw objects and make a lot of noise, not unlike a poltergeist would do, other shave also reported cold spots in various rooms of the mansion.
Who was this ghost girl of the Blue room?

Some claim the ghost was of girl that died from an epidemic? Is there any evidence of this alleged death of a young girl at this house?

in researching a little deeper into death in the district. I could not confirm that event. However I did find a story dating back to 1920 of a man from Medindie running over an 8 year old girl called Gladies Marjory Smith.
However we much question its chances of being the correct death this alleged ghost alludes too.
The Following Newspaper story posted below the Observer dated 22 May 1920 tells of the tragedy. The house was sold in 1919. Could the driver Hugh Robinson Corpe from this tragic death in North Adelaide have come from Menindie house in 1920?

KANACKI, I don't think that the girl killed by the motor vehicle is the same as the spirit which occupies the building in question.
I, like you, believe that the spirit is that of a girl who died at the house.
One other thing to note, some spirits get quite angry to any changes being made to the original building, as it was prior to their death.
Something, which sounds very odd is that being Mr. Frederick Scarfe selling the house due to the "arduous nature of keeping up with the housekeeping".
Most people in Mr. Scarfe's position would have house-keepers, gardeners, etc..
The question is therefore was the girl the daughter of one of the house-keepers and was the death covered up for some reason.
The timing of everything seems to much of a coincidence, i.e., selling of the property using some very questionable reason?
-
Hello Simon good point.
The identity of this mystery ghost girl is a mystery ? Was she a victim of a cover up? was she somehow abused then murdered?
I checked through obituaries to see if there was one connected to the old house by its various names. but nothing every jumped out death wise connected to the old place.
If there was murder or accidental death covered up we need to question why and by whom? Perhaps there is some thing behind Frederick Scarfe selling the house.
And what was the relationship between the alleged ghost girl and the Blue Room? Was it the scene of her murder?
Kanacki
-
KANACKI, I agree with your last Post.
One other point; in looking at the picture of what the ghost may look like I felt a strange feeling that this picture may be closer to what the girl may look like.
She stays with my spirit.
It seems that I have a closer "past" relationship to South Australia, but have yet to understand, what that relationship was.
Perhaps this may become clearer in future "Past Life Meditations"; who knows!!
-
Hello Simon perhaps some one from the past is calling out to you? Perhaps a trip one day for you to Adelaide is calling?
Kanacki
-
KANACKI, yes, I would certainly like that.
Something else to note KANACKI, is that I do get more feedback from some of your other Posts but are not strong enough to report.
-
Sadly not having any ability at all I hear some people can see things rather like remote viewing and some can only see thing only if they are present at the site. Does the type of encounter depend on the ability of those who see?
And does the encounter vary between those who see?
Kanacki
-
KANACKI, I have experimented with remote viewing and am limited to only "feeling" the presence of the spirit, but I have no knowledge of those that can see spirits, what their experience is when they practice remote viewing and use it as I have.
-
Kanacki,i think I remote view,if it is seeing a picture & "seeing" people, emotions, sometimes left over stains etc & even smelling a strong odour just from looking at a picture. Its not all pictures, sometimes it's a mild reaction or a very powerful one.(like that picture of the paramatta orphanage?)were my reaction to the picture made me feel sick & it screamed out at me.Now it doesn't as much .These pictures are very interesting from a historical point of few as is the information behind it (as all your posts are :) ).The only thing I have a feeling for is that tower thingy ,it seems odd to me.
-
Hello Simon and Bronwyn.
Interesting comments, I suppose the tower would naturally be the focal point of the house. interesting enough it seems to have no useful purpose only as a decorative feature of the Neo Gothic style of the day. Perhaps all the energy accumulates around it? As for remote viewing I understand different people ( see) or have different type of intuition or capabilities.
If I was to guess where this alleged Blue room is I suspect under the witches hat roof? is that my Inquisition or a logical calculated guess? May others can point me in the right direction?
Kanacki
-
That would be my guess too Kanaacki & it's a logical one for me .It does appear to have no use except decorative but it is a lot of room in that witches hat/tower.The tower could have energy harnessing dimensions. You would need to go I believe inside the house to see/feel this.Interesting though..Kanaacki ,you have intuition, you are just tentative in believing yourself .
-
Hello Bronwyn
Thank you for the thumbs up. Many times I have questioned my intuition as I have been wrong badly. However both you and Simon have stimulated my desire to find out more and understanding about intuition.
I suspect some of my senses are not as good as they were years ago and and with other medical problems forces me to independently verify my intuition. Is it stronger in some people than others?
One thing for sure I have a desire to know all the secrets to life, ourselves our fears and all the other emotions and senses we some time feel we have lost. I suppose its the great journey discovering who we are?
Kanacki
-
It is a journey isn't it? .People's intuition is stronger as they use it more & believe in themselves.Practice makes nearly perfect ;)
This is the place to practice it,it seems to be a safe place ,which to voice your dreams, weird occurrences or intuitive flashes.
Your ghost stories with historical data have helped me,as it has triggered some memories & a host of other not really changes but re emerging of abilities etc.
As our senses diminish they say our other good senses become enhanced.I have to say Kanaacki that although you are posting a lot ,you seem calmer(?) Or maybe you are just exhausted?.I hope you are as good as you can be :D
Your intuition may have been wrong in the past but it doesn't determine the future.
-
KANACKI, I agree with Bronwyn regarding practicing aspects of ourselves to increase both our ability(ies) and learn about other parts of the paranormal world.
The other thing that comes into play for me is "what my spirit allows me to do or not do".
I know this sounds strange but it is quite an experience, both spiritually and physically, when it interrupts or stops me from moving forward with something I am practicing or a meditation it won't allow me too finish.
My only answer is that it is trying to keep me on the correct road, which will, hopefully, lead me to the end of my journey in this life.
-
Hello Bronwyn Indeed I am a little calmer. The last few months I have been involved in 4 legal battles. One with NSW land and environment court. Another in Paris France over an international business contract. And confidentiality breach by a perspective partner in the united states. And fight with a family member. Each one had their own pain. Each while dealing with illness and looking after a parent with dementia. There was days I felt like I was crucified.
Posting here and sharing these ghost stories of what ifs was a way to escape the stress. Most of all it distracted my brain from worrying excessively about some things out of my control.
Kanacki
-
Glad to here you are calmer & found respite here. What a few months you have had.
-
Hello Bronwyn
By nature I am a somewhat frantic person with a push to achieve goals that has been somewhat part of me for most of my life. Although I like to shut down the brain at night. It will not switch off is my trouble. I live like a cat and sleep in short cat naps so to speak. Strange enough I get more work done at night than in the day. I guess I am a night person.
Kanacki
-
KANACKI, I believe the answer in getting your stress levels is to:
1. Treat each task as a "Challenge" rather than a "Negative" task;
2. Compartmentalise each major task you are working on;
3. Place each task in the importance each is too you;
This then gives you a "macro view" of your tasks. In order to deal with them in a more logical manner carry out the following:
1. Break down each task into their component parts:
2. Identify each part into those components you can complete as you have the information and / or control of; and
3. Those components you have no control over; and
4. Of these components identify the "who, what and how" these components can be completed.
You also need to identify the timeframe that each task needs to be completed by and the "risk versus cost" of either "not completing or completing" each task later.
I'm sure you know all of the above, so apologies if I am preaching to the already converted.
P.S. Remember, take the "emotional" components out of each task as this, I feel, is causing you to be unable to move forward.
Take time out for yourself and either meditate or learn to "be one with yourself", i.e., learn to block out all noise, quieten your mind, close your eyes, quieten your emotions and block out your pain. This is not easy,
but as you start moving into quietening your physical senses you will find yourself moving closer to your spirit and increasing moments of clarity.

Hello Simon Thank you Some sound advice.
December is always a frantic month for me. I got all the presents for mum, the kids and grand kids all out the way in late November. Even got the tree up yesterday.
This month I have a fleet of vehicles insure and get registration. My Son is renovating my house in Southern Highlands while I have been living at my mums house as Carer for my mum with vascular dementia. Seeing 5 specialists this month and managing her Heart defibrillation which is slowing acceleration the vascular dementia cause by poor oxygen levels in blood starving memory receptors in the brain. I am an old hand looking after people. I looked after my dad who died on stomach cancer, and my late wife who died of breast cancer a few years ago. Keeping in touch and making time with my children and grand children. It seems It seems to me my whole life has been as a nurturer.... I suppose that is why I love gardens.
Yet with all the tragedy and little triumphs of life you have to push on. Even in your own lives you need to keep pushing on as that is human spirit, The life force that shines so brightly. That light in the proverbial tunnel of darkness.
My brain is not so great as late as I have forgotten the humidity on the coast. Its really bowled me over.
That and I an still in side effects of a treatment of a tumor in which some days I have no balance. I could not stand up without falling over. Even sitting at the chair the room spinning so much I feel like falling off the chair. My MS is giving me extreme back pain down the spine giving me a tremor that I cannot even hold a cup of coffee with shaking it all out of the cup. Yet I still push on friend. The fire and the drive is still there if not the body.
Time is SO precious my friend every second is like a drop of blood, time awaits for no one. Yet your advice is good and I will try to compartmentalize each task as a challenge as much as possible. Amazing I have been getting things done. I do have few stories to post yet hamstrung with other tasks so they are pushed back to at least after christmas.
But for now no rest for the wicked I am afraid. :-) As I type my eyesight is in and out of focus. And if I pause too long I not off. Yet so very tired.... I still manage two companies as a director. lucky I have good staff as they have taken a lot of work load off me. I still have to be involved in key decision making. Even in typing this I have taken 2 calls from clients dealing with their problems. Such is my fate....
Hopefully I have a much needed break after christmas. So I can turn off the brain for a few days.
Ironic is it not life can slip by when your busy without noticing it? Take care I post again after christmas.

-
Thank you KANACKi; I hope you have a well-earned rest over Christmas and the new year.
I will continue sending you Positive Energy via my friends in the Spirit World and perhaps even from the Angel World.
Reading your last Post, I was overcome with a feeling of the pressure you describe and how it surrounds you, almost consuming the positive energy you have.
You have been like a beacon of pure light to me my friend, enabling me to overcome my physical problems, which compared with your issues, are miniscule.
Looking forward in reading more of your Posts in 2017.

Thank you Simon. Your positive ray of light is more appreciated than you imagine.
I hope things get better also for you in the following year.

Apologies for not reading through all of this as it's late and I'm kinda living day by day at the moment but if it's of any relevance, when I used to work in environmental circles, I heard tell of a stone henge like structure they used to drop the first nuclear bomb on as a target like if you get what I mean seeing as it was apparently dropped out in the middle of the desert and aside from driving something out there they could recognise or whatever they case was, the talk I heard was that they dropped an atomic bomb on a stone henge like structure..
If anybody has the heart to search YouTube for a documentary called Close Encounters Of The Lohud Kind which is actually about UFOs, they also go into detail about a forest in America with Celtic like structures not familiar to Native American history and people, as it mentioned in the documentary, have apparently been in the forest and seen ghosts of Celtic warriors or knights running about. The stone structures are strange and one would need a basic knowledge of pulley based mechanics to arrange them at the level they are arranged. All I know about the Celts is probably what I've gleaned from looking into the Viking history so anybody else's guess is as good as mine. I've also heard talk or tell of some stone cave like places in Australia although I'm not sure the source I've got that information from is strong enough at this point although scientific discoveries tend to upset some people seeing as old superstitions perhaps need to be examined before the findings can be uncovered although like I said, I'm a little unsure of the source right now and apologies in advance for interrupting this topic with a slight diversion or intermission perhaps..
If anybody is interested in the YouTube:- https://youtu.be/V0S1YFueS9Y
Apologies again for chopping in but I just wonder if maybe there aren't spirits out there that do go around different places trying to educate others and maybe the fact this place is called Stone Henge has some relevance outside of the basic explanation, although the latter is probably the correct one..

Some people believe in stone tape recordings. can an event in this stone tower be replayed at a given time under certain conditions replayed like a recording?

Violet, in relation to the site, you need to delete, the characters to the left of "www", then you will get through.
Another interesting tale, but, why, why, why do these so called Ghosts only come out at night. Afterall, most of the spirits I have helped and the only spirit I saw and helped her moved on were during daylight hours.
In every TV "Spirit Shows" do the looking at night, yet about 99.5% are at night. What is doubly disturbing is that they never feel any spirits and/or energy during the daily walk through they do on each show.
I don't need any equipment, and I feel spirits and/or energy (Positive or Negative) during the day and night.
KANACKI, I did not read your Post on the 6 December 2016, but re-reading the Post brought up a strange connection as I was experiencing some of your ailments and indeed, there was a time prior to the during that time.
I must have "locked" with your spirit and did not realise that I had not unlocked from you. Most of the time, it is an automatic process.
Strangely enough it was so bad that I had to see my Surgeon as the symptoms were so constant, yet when he saw the MRI's a couple of discs had compressed a little but not enough to cause my imbalance increase. I also had shaking hands and could barely write out the form prior to my MRI.
On the other hand maybe you had some of my symptoms too, as I am still uncertain on my feet and hands continue to get worse, hence my short times on the Forum. LOL
-
Thanks Kanacki, the second link worked. I used to love watching The Extraordinary!
I wonder, Simon, why ghosts are thought to come out at night? Maybe because for many people, their senses other than sight are heightened by the darkness and they perceive more activity?
I'm also wondering why the owner had so much trouble with the haunting when my understanding is, there are capable people who can move unwanted spirits on. But maybe it's just that stubborn ghosts make spookier stories.
-
Hello Violet
You make an excellent point.
In answer to the question why are ghosts more seen at night? Perhaps the brain is too distracted processing sight and sounds during the day not to notice ghost so much? At night for most of us the ambient outside back ground noise quietens down at night allowing our hearing and other senses that seem to be more acute. While in day time our brain relys more in processing imagery. Thus while at night other senses become more active making up the shortfall of the loss of our day time vision.
Thus the increase in various senses may be trigger to seeing such apparitions?
Kanacki
-
KANACKI and Bronwyn, one of the other points, which I think I have mentioned in past Post(s), is that another reason for recording the major part of these programs at night is that they "activate in most viewers is the "Fight or Flight Response", thus bringing out feelings in viewers, which can lead the viewers to want to watch these programs to activate this response.
If the program was filmed in the day only, the "Fight or Flight Response" is diminished quite substantially.
Refer the following Internet Sites (the second site shows my sense of humour today):

Hello Simon

KANACKI and Violet, one of the things that I continue to learn is that there is much, much more alignment between various scientific areas, philosophy, paintings, etc., and the spiritual worlds.
Yet, when I seek to show this alignment to some of my close relatives, they just don't want to see, what is most obvious.
Also, the more religious they are the quicker the mind is closed, as a lot of what I see, in fact, can be seen in the writings of religious books.
One religion's views (I am unable to tell you which one and I cannot even tell you why), writings are indeed quite aligned to the world of the Paranormal.
I am also unable to tell those from the religion, who have been giving me monthly documents, handed out to their members.
Sorry, if what I write is a bit scattered, it is just that I am also working on a number of parts of my puzzle, which is linked to my "life's Journey".
-
Hello Simon
Sadly for some the "easy"answer to the mysteries of the unexplained need not be confronted with independent thought. Many strong devout Christians rather not face such conundrums. I being a curious being by nature cannot blindly swallow the good book answers unquestionably. yet I agree ironically in the very texts and doctrine they endear themselves to is full of Paranormal references of miraculous events....
Yet I believe this unwillingness to confront such matters of the paranormal was a hangover from middle ages when people confronted the churches interpenetration of the bible was burned as heretics.
This very fear to confront those issues because of this has been passed down through ages where even today believers are discouraged to question the churches interpenetration of such matters.
One of greatest secrets of lives journey is rise above doctrines than discourages independent thought. Without independent thought we lose our humanity. For you Simon I think the spirit of the old Albigensians in you understands this so even if you some times struggle to fit in.
The Cathar's " The pure Ones" saw back in 11th century that Christianity had changed over the first 1100 years from its original concept years by internal power plays within. As with all absolute power eventually corrupts even those with most purest of intents.. Independent thought had become dangerous as it became to be seen seditious by the hierarchy who succumbed to the power controlling independent thought.
The religion today is very different today than in the early years the religion evolved.
Kanacki

I so enjoy your thought-provoking comments, Kanacki.
Within Judeo-Christian religions there must be different levels of ‘security clearance’ among worshippers. The purpose of the base level seems to be to keep the masses compliant and peaceful. Worshippers at this level are required to demonstrate Faith, which is unquestioning acceptance of God’s will i e not to exercise critical thought. However surely their leaders must have access to, and be encouraged to develop other ideas and truths discovered over thousands of years of the religions’ existence?
-
Hello Violet
You have made some very interesting comments. I being an outsider to the inner workings of Church establishment do not know the real level of understanding of scripts. Indeed I agree with you they most likely do have access to many truths and that is the problem many of those truths conflict with their established doctrines.
Thus they push the subject of Bind faith and devotion. It worked well in the middle ages when most people could not read or write. But now in 21st century blind faith and devotion, by many who today are better educated is seen no better than mind control by a religion that has become a business.
After all even getting various religions to recognize wrong doings in the case of child molestation in the church was like pulling teeth. Its not the moral ground they are protecting? Its the bottom line! Imagine how they would resist if much of their established religious doctrine was proven to be untrue?
It would make every day people question the claims of that religion and most of all the motives, under mining the power of such religions have over people. For religious establishments that would be utter anarchy.

KANACKI and Violet,
I think you have both clearly stated the position of the methods past/present religions and I cannot add anything further.
The other religions that are merged with the legal and government systems, the most documented is the Muslim Faith intertwined with both the government and legal systems, which keep "the people" in place with archaic laws and also treat women as chattels and men can do what-ever is stipulated within the Religious/Laws/Government.
But, just as the Judeo/Christian religious faiths "Twist" the words in whatever Bible they choose to use the Muslim Faith again "Twists" the words of the Quran whether they are Sunni and Shia.

Hope the above makes sense, unfortunately my spirit is seeking information about certain people, etc., making my writing much more difficult.
-
Think this discussion needs its own thread!
Esther Perel (psychotherapist) says in a podcast (No Filter) that as our religious faith has declined, we now look to our spouses for the sense of belonging, nurturing and fulfilment that spiritual communities and a relationship with God once provided. Romance, having a soulmate, true love etc. might now be considered a religion of sorts. She suggests this might strain marriages. Food for thought.
-
Hello Violet indeed it does as it is so thought provoking...
Kanacki
-
Violet, you have unfortunately hit probably 2 highly emotional spots in Simon2's incarnation at this time and in this physical form, that clearly I still am uncomfortable in.
At the great "old age" (LOL) of 12, which was after my spiritual awakening, it was my Mother who cried when I told her I was no longer attending Sunday Children’s' Bible Studies as well as Church.
I really felt sad for her as I knew the reaction that this would have on my mother, however what surprised me was, as if my mother knew, she came to me, smiled and said gently that she understood and I truly believe she did.
My mother and I were always very close and there seemed to be an unsaid deeper closeness, we both had.
Born just before the great depression, after which came the 2nd World War and the typical life for females of that time, my mother had no chance to go to school after age 11, yet the intelligence she had was always within her.
The other big one, from my perspective, all of my brother and 2 sisters, have never approached me for more information, since I told them when I turned 66, which was approximately the 50th Year since I became self-aware of my growing paranormal aspects; from the age of 11 Years Old I was an extremely strong empath, which helped me in not approaching my parents, brothers & sisters and my friends, including their parents.
My better half was adamant that no one, especially her very religious family, find out as it would cause her great grief and I agreed, as I knew this would be the case.
An old work colleague and friend, who I told about my paranormal side, cut me off and refused to communicate with me since that time, which was July 2017. I thought that since my previous work colleague and boss, who was non-judgemental, passed-away, this person would be ideal as he was not religious, but this turned out not to be the case; clock-up one "friend" lost.
As I mentioned last year, that since my "Little Man", Henry (family dog) passed-away, I needed both a spiritual and physical solution and to my surprised both my spirits/angels and the Earth God, Gaia, came to my aid; hence I am now anchored to the outer edge of the spiritual/angelic worlds and to the Telluric Current Energy, both wonderful anchors and a fulfilling resolution.
-
I’m sorry to have touched on topics that are uncomfortable for you, Simon. You know what they say: we should never discuss politics or religion and we are talking about both.
-
Oh Violet, you have nothing to apologise for, indeed I find the Forum is just the place I can open up and write about issues I am having in relation to myself to all wonderful Members, so please do not ever feel I am reacting to something you wrote.
I just find the need to tell people some of the issues that even I have.
You have in fact, raised a point that I should tell people when I am having one of these "moments".
-
I’m glad something useful came out of the discomfort, as something often does though there would be more time for fun if there were an easier way! Perhaps it gets easier when we reach enlightenment?
-
Violet, I think you are totally spot-on.
Growing towards higher enlightment we, as I think you are saying, don't need a physical person to hold us in the physical world by, at least, being someone close to us like a relative or friend.
Since my recent growth (unfortunately not in height, LOL) in a number of areas I no longer need this feedback, except from the Members of this wonderful Site.
Also, in relation to your Post regarding Esther Perel's Podcast, which I have re-read, is certainly food for thought on the decline of religion, which perhaps more in Christianity, rather than all religions.
I am currently re-working a Post (one of my "Big Ones"), which I presented, some time back, to the Forum Members.

This thread Ghost Girl in the blue Room of Stonehenge North Adelaide got a lot of interest? Perhaps it one of the most enduring stories of ghosts that capture the imagination of South Australians of what if?
