Thanks HLD. You've opened up more understanding. I didn't realise protection is like a competition of wits. I thought there was either a fixed method determined by some law of paraphysics; or the strength came from intention and willpower.

I don't like either of your boxes.
There are "laws" of paraphysics... I should write them up... I will actually. I'll make a note of it.

Okay, here are the laws... or rules... whatever you want to call them. The way to think of these is that they all work in conjunction with each other.
Law 1 - The Law of World View
Knowing reality is impossible without seeing through our own world view. We can not reshape reality without seeing through our own illusions.
Law 2. Law of Attention
World views have inertia. The more evidence we desire to bolster our view the more we will find, it is self affirming. As we create our own world through our world view, so do we seek to maintain it. If we shift our focus or attention we can shift our world view.
Law 3. Law of Synchronicity.
Events are connected by meaning and pattern rather than time. Time is a construct so can not be the linking force. A "coincidence" does not exist, but is hiding meaning within a pattern.
Law 4. Law of Relative Truth
Everything is true, in at least one sense, and meaningless in another. Or, Nothing is true, but everything is permissible.
Law 5. Law of Pragmatism
If it works, it's true.
Law 6. Law of Paradox
No world view encompasses the whole world. Laws may conflict with each other and both still remain true. People can experience the same event and have a different outcome or experience. The world is not bound by our perceptions or world view.
Law 7. Law of Utility
All things are linked.
Law 8. Law of Reflection
The microcosm is the macrocosm. The part contains the whole. As above so below. The smallest atom contains the image/pattern of the universe.
Law 9. Law of Association
If 2 things share something in common they can influence one another. The more in common the greater the influence. This law contains 2 sub-laws.
9a. Law of Similarity
Cause and effect have resonannce with one another. To make rain one drips water to the ground. To make fire one creates heat. This is the essence of "sympathetic magic"
9b. Law of Contaigion.
Once things come in to contact they will remain connected even following separation. The objects remain a witness to each other. A hair from a person can be used as a focus for things for or against them .This is "homoeopathic magic".
Law 10. The Law of Connection
Every action/interaction is an energy exchange. To have power over something is for it to have power over you; To oppose something is to maintain it. The opposite contains the essence of the other.
Law 11. The Law of Synthesis
Opposing forces can be unified in a force or concept and still contain the original opposites.
Law 12. Law of Duality
Any force of concept can be divided into two opposing parts and still contain the essence of the unified force or concept, and the essence of each other.
Law 13. Law of Personification
Anything can be personified, any force, concept or object, and thus be considered to be alive, to have entity and personality.
*The Corollary of Personification (or the Law of Invocation and Evocation)
A personification manifest must be treated as real beings. Whilst they may be objectified aspects of ourselves, of nature or of other concepts in the universe they should never be treated as such/ Remember too that as much as it is a manifestation of a personified energy, so are we.
Law 14. Law of Interfaces.
Power exists in the interface points, places and times that are not one or the other. Midnight, dusk, dawn, crossroads, grottoes, etc.
Law 15. Law of Symbols
Symbols can change the inner and outer realities of those using them. These do not need to be understood as symbols of power to have them have an effect. These symbols manifest their own power and can influence reality without perception into their meaning. These symbols have their power either from attention or from resonance, no one is sure... but it is known they have power.
Law 16. Law of Magical Names.
A name is the object named. The name is intrinsically connected to the object and the object to the name. To know something's true name is to have power over it. To know it's name is to know it's nature. Not all names are names though, many are labels.
Law 17. Law of Labelling
To label something limits it. To give it a label removes information as the label contains preconceptions. Naming something does not mean you understand it and can limit your ability to understand it. Label something only when required.
Law 18. Law of Information Packing
The more information a symbol contains the more general it is. The more specific a symbol is the more it excludes from it.
Law 19. Law of Patterns/Knowledge.
The more unpredictable the message, the more information it contains. The more information you have the less energy you need to achieve an outcome. Knowledge is power...
Law 20. Law of Intelligence
Any energy pattern of sufficient complexity will behave like an intelligence when treated as an entity. The more complex the pattern the more "intelligent" it appears.

My world became different reading these laws! They would easily bear years of study. This is an invaluable list. Thank you HLD.
How did you come to know these laws HLD?
What are some practical applications of 3 (synchronicity) and 8 (reflection)?
13 (personification) is a little alarming. Does this mean there is some power in talking to inanimate objects?
I like 17 (labelling), this has resonance for a writer.
