Authorities could be asked to investigate the existence of the mysterious big cat after another spate of alleged sightings in western Sydney.
It’s a legend that’s intrigued residents of west Sydney and the Blue Mountains since the 1970s – the mysterious ‘big cat’: a creature resembling a black panther.
One popular theory holds that the animal escaped from the circus.
There have been 600 reported sightings of the large animal, including a recent spate in the Hawkesbury.
Self-confessed believer, NSW Premier Nathan Rees, says it’s time the mystery was reinvestigated.
“I don’t think it’s necessarily an urban myth,” he said.
“There are too many people reporting sightings.”
He says the government will look into revisiting the mystery, with a comprehensive database – set up after the last investigation, three years ago.
